Back to school, back to work, or just back to reality — after a loose summer, a little structure can go a long way. Now’s a great time to reset a few things at home.
You don’t need a full overhaul — just a few intentional tweaks can help your home support your everyday life a whole lot better.
1. Refresh Your Entryway Drop Zone
Your entryway — or whatever door you use to come and go — is the first landing spot for all the stuff of daily life. And it’s one of the easiest places to lose control of clutter.
Try this:
Hooks and Baskets: Add a hook or basket for each person (or pet!)
Trays and Bowls: Use a small tray or bowl for keys, earbuds, sunglasses
Shoe Storage: Give shoes a designated space — even a single bin can help
Simple Joy Tip: Label it. If it has a label, it’s more likely to get used the right way.
2. Create a Command Center That Works
Even if you’re not juggling school schedules, most homes need a go-to spot for:
Incoming mail
Appointments and reminders
Weekly to-do’s or meal plans
This can be a small counter corner, a wall-mounted system, or even a tray setup on your kitchen island. The goal: one clear spot for your mental load to land.
3. Streamline Your Weekday Routines
Life moves fast — especially in the mornings and evenings. A few small systems can help:
Prep a “grab and go” breakfast/snack station
Lay out clothes the night before (yes, even for grown-ups!)
Set a weekly rhythm — like “Tidy Tuesdays” or “Meal Plan Mondays” to keep momentum
No matter what your season looks like, a little structure can bring a whole lot of peace. And if you’re not sure where to start, I’m always here to help you figure it out.
